29er & Laser 4000 Open 10th & 11th September 2011.
The 29er & Laser 400 open event was held over the weekend of 10th & 11th September 2011. 34 29er’s & 9 Laser 4000’s arrived in the morning for registration. Conditions were not ideal with the wind gusting in the high 20’s. The LTSC team were on hand though to assist the arrivals.
Registration started at 0900hrs with a competitors briefing being held at 1100hrs, this was given by Robin Dent, who would be the Principal race officer for the weekend. The Committee Boat ‘Indulgence’ was kindly supplied and skippered by Simon Nabney.
The courses were laid and off they all went, the Committee boat was anchored up to the East of the Lymington river entrance.
The 29ers started their day which was later described on their website as possibly the fastest and most ‘furious’ of the year. Jack Hawkins & Chris Thomas made the day their own taking first in the second and fourth races. Ian Payne & Chris Berry kept them on their toes though taking the other 2 firsts. With only a 4th & 5th in the other two races though it was not enough. In the meantime Callum Ellis & Will Harris were jogging along picking up all the 2nd’s & 3rd’s. In the Wind over tide conditions it was surprising that there were not more problems. Some of these youngsters were brilliant.
Sunday dawned and to the surprise of quite a few competitors we would be racing again. The wind was very similar to Saturday but the tidal conditions were marginally better. None of the Laser 4000’s managed to race Sunday; they did launch and try though. The 29er’s managed one race before abandoning With Ollie Cooper & Henrietta Brand taking the win from Callum Ellis & Will Harris 2nd & Luke Berrywood & Chris Brewer (LTSC & Parkstone) 3rd.
At the prize giving following racing on Sunday both the Laser 4000’s and 29er’s classes thanked LTSC for their traditional and excellent hospitality.
32 volunteers assisted on the Saturday and 33 assisted on the Sunday in various roles from Committee boat, RIB crew’s, registration, results, and car park & slipway teams. We must now thank the many volunteers who assisted over the weekend for without them, LTSC would not be able to host events of this nature.
