BLACK ROCK RACE - handicap race across the Solent around the Black Rock buoy HAMBLE SCRAMBLE (finish line near Calshot) T he Hamble Scramble consists of two handicap races the first on the Saturday with the tide to a buoy close to Calshot and the second race on the Sunday morning with the tide back to Lymington. This was traditionally a major annual dinghy event but in recent years keelboats have joined in and outnumber the dinghies. The low number of participating dinghies is partly due to lack of launching trolleys and place to leave dinghies at Hamble. In 2006 this problem was solved by leaving the dinghies at Calshot Water Activity Centre which is much closer to the finishing line than Hamble making it a lot easier to ferry trolleys/helms & crews between Lymington and Calshot. If you would like to participate in 2007 please let the Sailing Secretary know so that suitable arrangements can be made.CORONATION CUP - handicap race across Solent to Black Rock along Island shore to Hampstead Ledge and back to mainland. CALSHOT CHALLENGE - a handicap race with a course going east as far as Calshot if possible. It may include a stop at Calshot before returning. Christchurch Ledge North Head Buoy Race - handicap race out of Solent past Hurst Castle into Christchurch Bay and either go along Hurst Beach around North Head Buoy or out into bay around Christchurch Ledge buoy. Both races are usually on same day with same start. Competitors select which course they wish to sail.NEWTOWN RACE
- race to entrance of Newtown River on Isle of Wight - east of Yarmouth |
