Birdwatching - How to start and what to look out for

With so many birds to look at around the coastline and in the New Forest, David Rowling discusses how to start bird watching.  He will bring along the kind of equipment needed and some of the books worth reading which help when you begin a hobby enjoyed by millions.

David brought along a great array of equipment and slides and fascinated experts and beginners alike with tips on how to get started birdwatching in the area.  He told us of walks to go on and areas to visit.  A big round of applause and an enormous number of questions rounded off the evening.  Pamela Upcher gave the vote of thanks and congratulated David on his recent RSPB award.

18th October - David Hawkes

A Diplomat's Lot

A light hearted look at HM Diplomatic Service. A gentle, humorous and informative insight in to the work of the government's representatives abroad.  David amused us all in a tour de force without notes recounting the many amusing incidents he and his fellow diplomats have encountered whilst serving HMG.  He proved his credentials as one of the stars of the New Forest talks circuit.

11th October - Denise Ryan

The life of a TV Stunt Coordinator

Denise started her TV life swimming alongside Miss Piggy in the Muppet Show!  Since then she has coordinated stunts on many Feature and TV films.  Her many credits include Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, Aliens, Miss Marple, Midsummer Murders to name just a few.  In a fascinating account of her professional life, Denise reveals some of the secrets of the film world's most dangerous job.

Denise gave a marvellous talk telling all about how she got into stunts - the first time she was set on fire, the first time she was shot, having to jump off a 27 story building but still being frightened of the lift going up.  Her repertoire of stories seemed endless as she told of her present co-ordination role, and the many films and TV series she had worked on.

The audience of about 80 people were fascinated by the inside story of working with the stars - who was nice, and who was not so nice - unfit to publish on a website.

Denise came over as a consummate professional who really cared about her job.  She inspired many of us to really look at those fight scenes - finding when the stunt double took over.

After a long round or questions, Adam Reay proposed a vote of thanks and loud and continuous applause followed

4th October 2006 - Rev. Stewart Timbrell Chaplaincy in Psychiatry

Stewart Timbrell lived up to his reputation by giving a serious message in a very humorous way.  Over 100 people packed the Solent Room to hear his wonderful discourse on how he made his way in the Church in his early years and in particularly found his calling in caring for psychiatric patients, firstly in Bury and latterly in Bournemouth.  Stewart's treatment of the soul is simple, support and laughter and he has a gift for both.

Nick Hopwood proposed a vote of thanks which was echoed round the room with huge applause.

LTSC talks fund are giving the entire proceeds of the entry money to Stewart's charity.
