OLYMPIC HOPEFUL!

Ben Paton receives funds raised by LTSC from Commodore, Richard Jenner, on  2 February 2008

PRESS RELEASE

OLYMPIC HOPEFUL!

Twenty two year Old Ben Paton is the current holder of both the European and World Men’s Laser Radial sailing championships. Now he is determined to compete in the 2012 Olympics in Beijing.

On Saturday 2nd February the Lymington Town Sailing Club in Bath Road held a fund-raising dinner in support of his efforts.

He was first noticed by immediate past Commodore Peter Upcher and has been adopted by the club.

Following some amazing video footage of Ben in action he gave an excellent presentation to the 62 diners attending the event.  He spoke of his enormous gratitude to his parents and grandparents for supporting his sporting journey this far and went on to describe his experiences, the constant training programme and his determination to succeed into the future.

Commodore Richard Jenner commented on Ben’s motivation and dedication to his cause as he presented Ben with just over £1,000 that had been raised during the evening.

In order to compete at Olympic level Young Ben Paton will need to move to the class of boat named ‘49er’, thus he will need a new boat as well as a crew member. Further enquiries about Ben or offers of help and support for him should be directed to Lymington Town Sailing Club, Bath House, bath Road, Lymington SO41 3SE.
