In a really demanding nationals which saw the kids doing 8 races over 2 days in winds gusting to 30knots!!! Robby Boyd put a great regatta together finishing all 8 races in the sport class and was rewarded with a 9th overall (53 starters), this is really impressive result for somebody who has not been racing at this level for very long. In the Pro class with the bigger rigs, Liam Willis again managed to finish all the races despite being one of the lighter sailors in the class finishing 22nd overall (38 starters), Louis Giron moved from the sport to the pro and despite never having sailed with the big rig before still managed a very creditable 27th. Having gone out in Julies laser to sail around the fleet and watch, I can vouch for the fact that the conditions were extreme, especially when you consider that the Tera Pro sail is less than 1sqM smaller than the sail I was using and I felt that I was at the limit of what I wanted!!!!!
RS Tera Southern Area Championships
RS Tera southern area championships held at Netley SC this weekend just gone (23rd/24th June), Robbie Boyd was 7th Overall and top Lymington boat out of 30 in the Sport class. In the Pro class (Big Rig) Liam Willis was also 7th but out of 10, despite only being able to do 1 days racing due to a school commitment. What was really impressive was that both Liam and Robbie finished all the races they were able to, in winds gusting well up into the mid 20’s, the clubs either side of Netley, (Stokes Bay and Weston) both abandoned races due to too much wind, it was also noticeable that both Robbie and Liam had very good speed and boat handling compared to boats from other high profile clubs demonstrating how good the standard of sailing is at LTSC!!!!
Tom Goacher finished 10th in the Sport again acquitting himself really well especially as he hasn’t been sailing the Tera for as long as Liam or Robby, although currently sailing under the RLYC burgee Tom is hopefully in the process of joining the Town!!!
Next weekend the RS Tera’s move on to the National Championships at Burnham on Crouch, Robbie, Liam and Tom are all entered, again Robbie and Tom will be sailing in the Sport class and Liam in the Pro, but this time the numbers will be far greater, over 90 entered already, racing in fleets this size will be really good experience and training for all of them but especially Liam who is also entered for the world championships in Italy in August!!
