John Sims leads school sailing team

One of our extremely well known Club members - John Sims, (Wayfarer 3733) is about to embark on a new extra curricular activity, with a lot of help from some friends.

As the Sailing Teacher assisting The Hordle Walhampton School, he has, included in his remit for 2011, the IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) National Sailing Regatta, to be held at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy – (with one year to go before the 2012 Olympic Games are held at the same venue).

The event is scheduled to take place over two days on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th May 2011 with the under 11yrs category racing on the Thursday. Two teams of two Hordle Walhampton pupils are being entered by the School in the under 11yrs category.

The children will be paired in double handed Laser Pico dinghies (using main and jib sails to race). The year 5 & 6 pupils holding RYA Dinghy Sailing Youth Stage 2 qualification (or greater) are currently being invited to trial for the places. (The Laser Pico’s have been loaned by Lymington Sea Scouts where John is also very heavily involved).

We wish John every success with this venture, as although they are youngsters and will obviously be keen in their own right, we suspect there will also be a few totally mad keen parents to be contended with. Good luck with that John.
