Meanderers
Organiser: David Long
The Mid-Week Meanderers are a gathering of adult Members who are free to enjoy Wednesday outings in motor and keelboats. They meet each week, summer and winter, at 09.30 in the Solent Room, when a destination is chosen after consideration of the day’s tidal and weather conditions.
These are self-organised events and as such, skippers have full and sole responsibility for the crew on their boats. In turn, they are under no obligation to take anybody they would prefer not to have on board.
However, it is very uncommon for budding crew to not be offered a place for the day.
Inexperienced crew are encouraged to take the RYA Competent Crew course before attending, although some skippers are prepared to take novices, in suitable weather conditions.
Participating crew should bring their own provisions and suitable clothing for the day including life jackets.
Day-sailing on a semi-impromptu basis has proved to be an excellent way for people to get to know one another. Crew are able to find places on various yachts at an informal meeting before sailing, which offers a chance for new members to become involved, make friends, and go out on the water. Also, for skippers to find compatible people for crewing longer excursions.
