2011 Frog Racing Night
Written by Nick Struthers
The original team who bought the Frogs to the Club, Nick Struthers and Simon Ward, were back with a stable of finely trained beasts.
The turnout was a trifle low, but those who came seemed to have a great fun evening. The Grand Final brought forward the six fastest frogs and finest jockeys. Aussie Blue owned by Chris Godwin, with Terry Hewson on the reins led right up to the final furlong, only for this temperamental frog to dig in its heels and rear up, allowing That's Better, sired by Grit, out of The Eye, owned by Marion Ford-Hutchinson and jockeyed by husband Andrew to win by a short head.
Even with a low turnout, £70 from the owner's auction pot went to Marion and a fine bottle of whisky to Andrew as the winning jockey.
Thanks to all those who helped on the evening, especially Simon on the 'Tote', and we hope to see more of you all next time.
