DINGHIES SAILED

TYPES OF SAILING

You will see from the accompanying web pages that the Club supports a variety of types of sailing:-

  • Dinghy Racing

  • Casual Racing

  • Dangerous Girls

  • Pottering

Every one of these is open to any dinghy or catamaran, except that any one racing will need a dinghy which has, or can be allocated, a Portsmouth Handicap Number.

POTTERING

The dinghy park, changing rooms and public launching slipway are always accessible.

There is no restriction on what boats are allowed in the dinghy park.

Whether you are sailing a well loved family dinghy or practicing for high level competition in a modern dinghy or catamaran the facilities are there for you.

RACING

All Club Racing is run as Handicap Racing using the RYA Portsmouth Handicap Numbers.

Any dinghy or catamaran with a PN may race. We can also allocate a PN if required.

There are effectively fleets within the handicap classes where members are competing against the same class, but with the bigger handicap fleet, for example:

RS400, Merlin, Aero or Solo

When a fleet becomes established, it may apply to the Sailing Committee to hold an Open Meeting.
