The Needles Relief on Saturday 12 December was originally organised to provide Christmas relief to the crew manning the Needles Lighthouse. Since the lighthouse was automated, the Needles Relief has been run in support of the RNLI. The yacht racing event is organised by the RLymYC and RSYC, with LTSC organising the party and singing! Everyone is invited to sail or motor, race or cruise or take a ferry to this well-supported fun festive event. Details of the racing, including NoR for the racers is https://rlymyc.org.uk/On_the_Water/Racing/Race_Events/NeedlesRelief After the prizegiving at the Royal Solent, from around 1300, we will be singing carols in the Bugle Inn, Yarmouth, accompanied by our Giles Thornton. For those not sailing across, why not go on the Kraken ferry with the generous discount to LTSC members.
RIB Clinics are a method of allowing our supporting volunteer members who currently are able to drive our beloved Ribs, to keep their skills updated, during the forthcoming slipway closure maybe a wonderful way of getting onto the Lymington River and the Western Solent to learn new skills such as; towing, capsize recovery support, Man Overboard, lee shore rescue etc.
We have put these 2027 dates in the diary and the sessions are organized as pairs for progression of skills:-
09.00- 12.30hrs
Jan 23rd & 24th
Feb 6th & 7th
Feb 27th & 28th
Please book via the website here if you’d like to participate - a booking cost of £15 per head for the two 3hr sessions.
Wightlink Bridge Trips: A return crossing to Yarmouth and back, accompanying the skipper and crew aboard the bridge of the Wightlink Ferry. Experience, first hand, the challenges of navigating a very large ferry through the confined and busy waters of the Lymington River and Solent. These trips are free and limited to 5 people per session. Booking link is available here
North Sails European Loft - Visit December 5th 2026
1000 arrival to 1200 approx.
Location details: 6-7 Fareham Business Park, Lederle Lane, Gosport, PO13 0LF
A fantastic opportunity for LTSC members to take a trip around the highly impressive, state of the art, North Sail's loft in Gosport.
Includes 45 min loft tour - split into 2-3 groups, led by sailing gurus Charlie Cumbley and Dave Lenz. Also hosted on the loft floor as an interactive session; some technical aspects including design considerations and sailcloth options. And hopefully, they will have time to rig up a Solo up inside the loft and run through some tuning and sail control effects.
Free to book: here
Jacquot (day boat with lifting keel) - The very generous owner has kindly agreed for LTSC to moor her alongside the club pontoon and be available for members to use while the slipway is closed. During this period Jacquot can be booked free of charge for 3 hour slots. Any "skipper" would need to have an endorsement from LTSC Training, prior to booking, as Jacquo will be kept on the inside pontoon berth (where Fortuna is normally), so suitable skills will be needed to manoeuvre her in and out of the berth, this can be arranged via sailing@ltsc.co.uk. We will publish Jacquot booking details in the near future.
The intention is for Jacquot to be berthed on the "Fortuna" berth, so suitable skills will be needed. We will make Jacquot available for booking in the next week or so.
