RYA Recogised Training Centre

The Lymington Town Sailing Club is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Training Centre offering dinghy sailing, powerboat and shore-based theory courses.

Our courses follow the RYA scheme for Dinghy Sailing and Power Boating. Coaching is provided by our experienced RYA qualified instructors who are familiar with the local sailing area. They have an enthusiastic but relaxed approach to their sport and a wealth of knowledge to impart.

We offer a wide range of practical courses and tuition in dinghy sailing for all ages from 8 years upwards.  Our power boat courses start from the age of 12yrs.

Training takes place in the sheltered waters of Lymington River and creeks protected by the Lymington Marshes.

Adult Dinghy Courses

Level 1 & 2 Course - 1.jpg

The LTSC Dinghy Sailing courses take place in the club’s RS Vision and RS Quest sailing dinghies.

Both boats allow the instructor to sail with the students, to provide close quarters help and support. The Club also use single handed dinghies, which allow more helm time.

RYA Start Sailing (Level 1)

The Start Sailing course is designed for those with little or no sailing experience. Learning to sail is through practical demonstrations and individual coaching. Our aim is to develop, skills enabling trainees to sail under supervision, around a triangular course in light winds.

RYA Better Sailing (Level 2)

Moving up to Level 2 is where the fun begins and you really start to be confident in your dinghy. Manoeuvres will be perfected, and you will develop your skills on all points of sailing. Extra skills are completed enabling you to be totally in control.

We also offer the more advanced courses.  Please enquire here.

Keel Boat Courses

LTSC RYA Keelboat courses cover sailing and auxiliary motor boating skills.

The courses follow the RYA teaching method progressing from complete beginners through to seamanship, day sailing and sailing with spinnakers.

The keelboat offers a more stable learning platform and is therefore suitable for less agile students or those who are very nervous of capsizing.

The Club is fortunate to have the use of a small keel boat "Jacquot" which is kindly loaned by a Club Member to use for training sessions.

RYA courses are delivered on two consecutive days.
